Wholesale Distribution is truly one of the best businesses in the world and one of the oldest ones. You can manufacture your products, import them or just buy them and sell them. Ether way there is plenty of business out there, it's profitable, it's fun, it's waiting!

Becoming a wholesale distributor is more than just a trend. By taking out the middle man in your profits, you will enable yourself to reap the benefits of all the work you do, instead of paying someone else and seeing only a percentage. However, if you want to be a successful wholesale distributor, you will need to understand how to maximize your profits during each transaction.

First of all, you want to know your product. While you might just want to sell the most expensive and popular item in the market today, realize that you're only going to sell what you actually know. Retailers aren't going to buy a product that you don't seem confident in, nor will they want to buy anything that you aren't able to fully describe and detail for their needs. Confidence is everything when it comes to your business.

Next, you will want to make sure that your supply is legitimate. This is for two reasons. One, if you're not getting a legitimate product you may be breaking copyright laws by reselling it again. And this is legal trouble that you don't want to get into. And two, if you unknowingly sell a false product to a retailer and they then sell it, they can get into legal trouble as well, and then drop you as a potential wholesaler. Along the way, this unhappy retailer will also be telling his/her friends that you are not reliable and you will lose current and potential customers.

In order to protect yourself and your retailers, you want to make sure that you are checking the products that you buy. This requires that you heavily research the suppliers that you buy from, and ask a lot of questions. If the supplier is unwilling to answer your questions, move onto someone else. Any avoidance to answer your questions can be a sign that they may be trying to hide the truth from you - and it's better to avoid doing business with them in the first place than to find out in other ways.

When you're pricing your products, you will want to look at your competitors to see how they are managing costs and profits. Are they marking up significantly or not? By realizing that your customers will be comparing prices as well, you will be able to create a realistic price that falls in line with their expectations. And while you want to make a profit, customers that avoid buying from you because your prices are so high are going to directly affect your profits.

Just like any other business, to make money as a wholesale retailer, you need to research your product as well as your market in order to increase your profits.

What type of Wholesale Business is the best for you? It really depends of many factors including what you like, your capital, abilities, time and more. You should start by deciding the types of products you would like to wholesale and distribute. To do this you can look at business models, pricing structures, and distribution options. Now, to start, you should just "look around" and find products you like.

Think of any product that you might have in your home right now. Chances are good that it went through the wholesale process unless it was made by hand and given directly to you from that person that made it. If you're thinking about getting into the profitable business of wholesale distribution, it can help to understand that types of distributors there are and where you might be able to fit in.

One of the fastest growing markets is the health and beauty distribution. Everyone needs certain health products on a daily basis, and stores need to be able to provide these goods at lowered prices. You might want to focus your efforts in this area when you're first beginning a wholesale business. Not only are these kinds of products inexpensive to purchase, they are also in high demand on a consistent basis. You will also find that they are easy to transport and that you will be able to manage them without a large truck or warehouse. These products are also much easier to mark up in terms of price, while can lead to larger profits for you.

Electronics has always been a great wholesale distribution market as everyone wants the latest in consumer goods. When you look at things like video games and personal electronics, these items tend to be quick sellers, even when they're not new. Whenever a new item comes into the market, consumers flood to get their hands on it. You can use this to your advantage. By realizing that electronics will never be a fading trend, you can start focusing your efforts on a certain category of electronics - personal digital music players, for example - and keep a wholesale business running based on that knowledge. Even those that aren't interested in buying the newest models will want to have the technology that everyone else has, but offer it to their customers for a lower price.

Another good market for wholesale distribution is nutrition. Creating a wholesale business that focuses on nutritional supplements or gadgets is a clear winner as people are more interested than even in making sure that they are healthy and fit. And these kinds of items aren't limited to nutritional stores anymore as well. Even your local gas station is now carrying the latest energy drinks so that travelers can get a little boost of energy. And you can make sure to cash in on that trend.

The truth of the matter is that if there is a product that you like, there is generally a distribution market for it. Take some time to look around you favorite stores to see what kinds of items are in demand and what you might be able to offer them. You may be surprised at what is missing from the market place and where you might be able to help fill these kinds of gaps.

Beverage Sales Newsletter: Are Energy Drinks Dead?

Are Energy Drinks at the front of the New Age Beverage Business? Or are they dead?

Energy Drinks are still growing and double figure digits. The problem is when you look close the only companies actually growing are Monster Energy Drink, Rockstart Energy Drink, Red Bull, Coca Cola products like Tab and Burn or Full Throttle, Pepsi Cola with Sobe and other large companies.

None of the small companies are growing or succeeding. Furthermore, when I speak with distributors, retailers and wholesalers they tell me they get at least one call every single day from someone selling them an energy drink. They tell me they don't what to see an energy drink ever again. So what's going on? Are new energy drinks dead or if there still an opportunity or an opening for new energy drinks to flourish?

Well, in my opinion there is still a large opportunity, but not through traditional channels. You can't get a new energy drink into 7-Eleven, or Circle K, or any of the important retail accounts. Well, you actually, can, if you can pay $100 per store times 4,000 stores for slotting, but that's $400,000 just to get into the store and in many cases that is not even enough anymore. How will you sell the product, advertise, etc. No, that's not the answer.

The answer is alternative channels. Many beverage companies don't realize that consumer goods can be sold in many different places, not just supermarkets and convenience stores. Energy Drinks as well as other type of beverages can be sold in office buildings, in hardware stores, doctor's clinics, and the list goes on and on. For example, the largest growing energy drink sales are using MLM - Multi Level Marketing and are being sold from home.

Using direct marketing, untraditional methods of distribution and clever sales strategies you can still sell your energy drink or other beverages and capture a niche and your share of the market.

So are Energy Drinks Dead? No, they are not, but the traditional way of launching an energy drink is saturated. So don't waste your time (and money) trying to prove me wrong. I have spoken with 3 companies just last month that when through up to $6 million dollars and could not compete in the space.

Think out of the box, think alternative, think direct sales.
